Welcome to HRDbyAbenah

Who is Abenah?

Hello, my name is Emanuela Kusi, but I go by Emma or Abenah. I’m married to my wonderful husband, Andrew, and we are blessed with a son, Jeremiah. I graduated with my bachelor’s in business management from James Madison University and I’m currently pursuing an MBA.

I currently work as an HR Specialist for the federal government and have been in my role for the past four years. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, spending time with family, and watching TV shows. I have a passion for helping others, planning events, and music. My favorite bible verse is Philippians 1:6 “ being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Why HR?

I’ve always been interested in helping others in any way that I could and I’m always told that I have a servant’s heart. From my high school years, I knew for sure that I wanted to be in a profession where I would be able to assist others. As I was finishing my senior year in high school, I decided that I would pursue business management and I chose to focus on human resources. Human resources is a profession that impacts every single person within an organization and I find great pleasure in knowing that I’m positively influencing someone’s life.

Human Resources is supposed to be a field of servanthood. In other words, HR professionals exist to help the people in a variety of ways and to the best of their ability. HR covers so many facets other than payroll. HR professionals may provide services in talent development, recruiting and retention, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, equal employment cases, and several other specialty areas. In my opinion, HR is gradually losing its touch with people in the name of technological efficiencies. My hope is that in the next ten years, human resources will return to putting the human aspect first.

HRDbyAbenah was born as a way to help educate people on the different aspects of career, education and professional development. As students and professionals, there are many topics that we come across, but never have extensive or authentic conversations about. HRDbyAbenah is for the person out there who feels like they aren’t being heard. I want you to know that you are heard, and together, we will educate ourselves on how to be the people who God has called us to be.
